Loyola and MOP bag honours

Loyola (men) and MOP Vaishnav College (women) retained the B. Sivanthi Adityan Rolling Trophy for producing more number of University players — 60 and 55 respectively — in the University of Madras Department of Physical Education annual awards function at the World University Service Centre here on Friday.

Loyola and MOP also won the P. Haridas MOP Endowment Trophy for winning the overall title in inter-zonal tournaments.

Pachaiyappa’s (men) and Ethiraj (women) bagged the second place for the Sivanthi Adityan Trophy while Stella Maris (women) finished second for the Haridas Trophy.

Speaking at the function, the chief guest of the function, Col. Prof. Dr. G. Thiruvasagam, Vice-Chancellor, University of Madras, revealed that the University Union Indoor Stadium (which is being demolished to pave away for a new one) will be completed by next year. “Due to certain procedures, it (work) was delayed. The Indoor Stadium will come up at a cost of six crores in 2013,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor also said Rs. 30 lakh will be sanctioned in the next Syndicate meeting for refurbishing the Univeristy Union playground. — Special Correspondent
