Breno’s lawyer has asked for a review of remand for the Brazilian Bayern Munich defender in connection with an arson investigation, the Munich prosecution office said on Monday.

Prosecutor Barbara Stockinger said that no date has been set, but that the hearing should take place within a fortnight.

Breno’s lawyer Werner Leitner was quoted by the

“He is in a very difficult personal situation. I am optimistic and will do everything that he is released as soon as possible,”

Bild quoted Leitner as saying.

Breno, 21, was arrested on suspicion of arson on Saturday following a fire at the player’s house.

Munich president Uli Hoeness has criticized the move and suggested late Sunday that Breno was depressed. He also said that Munich were ready to help if Breno could be released on bail.

Munich officials did not want to comment on the issue on Monday, ahead of a Champions League game against Manchester City Tuesday.

Leitner also said the player “needs help, not detention,” according to the Sueddeutsche Zeitung (SZ), in a case surrounded by much speculation.

The SZ on Monday spoke of unspecified domestic problems and that the player faced yet another knee operation in an injury—plagued career.

Breno came to Munich in 2008 but has only played 21 games for the Bundesliga leaders, plus eight during a loan spell in Nuremberg last year.
