The Netherlands beats England 4-3, takes bronze

Rogier Hofman scored with three minutes to go on Saturday to give the Netherlands a 4-3 victory over England and the bronze medal at the men’s field hockey World Cup.

Teun de Nooijer gave the Dutch team the lead in the 22nd minute, but England soon took a 3-1 lead at halftime through a field goal from Alastair Brogdon (23rd minute) and two penalty corner conversions by Ashley Jackson (30th and 34th).

Three-time champions the Netherlands hit back in the second session with a penalty corner conversion by Taeke Taekema in the 48th and an open play strike by Klass Vermeulen in the 55th before Hofman scored the winner in the 67th.
