The promoters of the Chennai franchise of the Indian Super League are believed to have zeroed in on Chennaiyin FC as the official name of the team, with a formal announcement expected to be made soon.

Earlier, media reports had christened the team Chennai Titans. However, sources revealed that the name, though up for consideration, was not the final choice.

Meanwhile, the franchisee has also roped in Swedish central midfielder Pierre Tillman from Swedish Premier League side Verberg Bois. Kshatriya Sports, Team Chennai's technical partner, played a key part in finalising the deal.

The 27-year-old joins countryman Bojan Djordjic in the Chennai team after spending six-and-a-half seasons with the Swedish team, which was promoted to the country’s second division in 2012.

“This is an opportunity that my agent worked out and it feels like a very exciting adventure. When I first heard about it I thought it sounded too good to be true but now it has started to sink in more and more,” Tillman told a Swedish newspaper.

The Chennai team, which has secured the services of Italian World Cup winner Marco Materazzi as its player-manager, is still on the lookout for a marquee player and seems confident of bagging a big-ticket name soon.
