Joachim Loew is set to renew his contract as Germany coach beyond the 2014 World Cup on Friday, likely until Euro 2016.

The German football federation DFB on Thursday announced a news conference for Friday with Loew and DFB president Wolfgang Niersbach and DFB general secretary Helmut Sandrock to present the result of talks between Loew and his staff with the federation.

Loew, 53, became assistant under Juergen Klinsmann in 2004 and has been in charge since Klinsmann didn’t renew his deal after the 2006 World Cup. He said on Monday that it was the aim to extend the contract until 2016.

Germany team manager Oliver Bierhoff and goalkeeper coach Andreas Koepke will also have their contracts renewed while Loew’s assistant Hansi Flick is to become DFB sports director after the 2014 World Cup.

Under Loew, Germany came second at Euro 2008, third at the 2010 World Cup and reached the semifinals of Euro 2012. Germany qualified for the 2014 World Cup last week in an unbeaten preliminary campaign and are rated among the top title favourites for the Brazil finals.
