East Bengal’s new coach arrives to take charge

Marcos Falopa is confidence personified on his arrival in Kolkata on Tuesday.

East Bengal’s new Brazilian coach Marcos Falopa has said he would focus on the “simple strategy” of hard work and discipline to help the team regain its top position in the country.

Falopa, who arrived at the city on Tuesday for his new assignment, said, “I cannot promise the team will play like Barcelona but I can assure you of hard work and try to make East Bengal the best football team of India.”

Falopa, whose son Americo is the physical trainer and goalkeeping coach for East Bengal, said he will start practice from July 15 and would make an assessment of his players before making any comments about the team.

“I would like to keep it simple and set the tactics according to the merit of the team. But my aim will be to make the team confident about winning,” he said. “My coaching philosophy is to play hard. It is being mentally strong and physically disciplined against the opponent.”

East Bengal is also set for a two-week conditioning camp in Kalyani, scheduled to start from July 21.

The Brazilian takes over Englishman Trevor Morgan, who had coached the side for the last three seasons.
