Bengaluru FC appears a side that is increasingly certain of its own abilities. At the Football Stadium here on Wednesday, there was little anxiety against a giant of the I-League like Dempo; instead there came early goals, a fourth straight victory, and an uncontested berth at the top of the table.

Siam Hanghal and Sean Rooney scored inside the opening 11 minutes before the latter added a second as the home side secured a 3-1 win.

Clifford Miranda pulled one back for Dempo, but it did not greatly affect the contest.

The Goan side struggled to create openings. Jewel Raja Shaikh and Peter Carvalho did not push forward enough and there was little service to the Brazilian attacker Beto.

“We’re not getting carried away,” said Bengaluru head coach Ashley Westwood after the win.

The result: Bengaluru FC 3 (Siam Hanghal 6, Sean Rooney 11, 61) bt Dempo SC 1 (Clifford Miranda 63).
