Difficult to 'Live it up' with the new FIFA World Cup Anthem

The divided opinions on the track produced by Diplo is certainly a bummer

This year's FIFA World Cup Anthem 'Live it up' is definitely not living up to expectations. But why should you care? Well, because willingly or otherwise, for the one month from the  beginning of the event on June 14 you will be constantly subjected to this high-on-beat track with haphazard lyrics, featuring Nicky Jam, Will Smith, and Era Istrefi.

The divided opinions on the track produced by Diplo is certainly a bummer since it also marks Will Smith's return to music. On the first hearing, nothing much registers. But given another chance if possible, the repeating "One life, live it up, 'cause we got one life/ One life, live it up, 'cause you don't get it twice..." will probably be what you remember.

The journey of anthems started with Los Ramblers' Spanish single "El Rock del Mundial" in 1962. Since then, FIFA has been bringing us an anthem with every edition of the  World Cup. These are designed as warm-ups to the  event, but also work as an opportunity for advertising. The songs often get different versions in various languages with global coverage. It's a great opportunity for artistes, not only because FIFA pays well but also because they get to make a global record; remember Shakira'S 'Waka Waka'?
