East Bengal returned to winning ways downing Mohammedan Sporting 2-1 in a re-arranged fixture of the I-league at the Salt Lake stadium here on Tuesday.
The South Sudan-Nigeria duo of James Moga and Edeh Chidi came good in the East Bengal attack striking once in each half. Mohammedan Sporting found the only goal through Japanese recruit Taro Hasegawa.
Winless in the last three rounds, East Bengal looked desperate to get back on track. Chidi found the winner barely six minutes from time to give East Bengal its first win since December 15, when East Bengal had upstaged current league leader Bengaluru FC 2-0 at home. East Bengal went into the lead in the 18th minute through Moga who found the target after a flick-on from Chidi had cleared him inside the Sporting box.

East Bengal dominated the first half but Sporting equalised off a fine effort by Hasegawa, who nodded home a swerving cross from R. Dhanarajan, in the 33rd minute. Both teams made some good efforts to break the deadlock in the second half but failed to find the mark. Finally, Chidi made the most of a measured lob from Shylo Malswamtluanga and fired home the winner in the 84th minute.
The win helped East Bengal recover some ground in the league standings tallying 23 points from 15 outings, while Mohammedam Sporting remained on 17 points from 18 matches.
