Terry to escape UEFA action for criticising referees

March 22, 2010 07:36 pm | Updated 07:36 pm IST - NYON, Switzerland

UEFA will not investigate John Terry for criticising the quality of referees in Champions League matches.

UEFA said that its disciplinary unit declined to open a case against the Chelsea captain based on his comments reported by English media.

Reports on Sunday quoted Terry as saying that German referee Wolfgang Stark gave “a really bad performance” in Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Inter Milan last week. He said Chelsea needed to address the problem with tournament organiser UEFA.

Stark rejected two penalty appeals as the London club went out at the round-of-16 stage.

Terry said Chelsea was let down by poor refereeing for the second straight year, after its semifinals elimination by Barcelona last season.
