Founders and co-owners of FC Goa, Shrinivas V. Dempo and Dattaraj V. Salgaocar, have decided to exit the franchise, according to a statement from the ISL club here on Friday.

In their joint statement, Dempo and Salgaocar said a sense of “deep distress” following the developments post the December 20 ISL-2 final in Goa, had forced them to take the decision.

Salgaocar was involved in a brawl with Chennaiyin FC captain Elano Blumer following the match last year, which FC Goa lost 3-2. While Elano was arrested based on Salgaocar’s complaint and released subsequently, FC Goa was docked 15 points for Season-3, and the co-owners awarded suspensions and fined. The punishment is pending following an appeal.
