Rooney’s two-game ban upheld

Published - April 07, 2011 03:46 pm IST - London

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will miss the FA Cup semifinal against Manchester City this month after a two-match ban for abusive language was upheld on Thursday.

Rooney was punished by the Football Association after he swore into a television camera after scoring during his side’s 4-2 victory over West Ham last weekend, a match in which he completed a hat-trick.

The England striker apologized for the offence caused but appealed against the severity of the ban, which was upheld by a regulatory commission.

The decision means he will now miss United’s Premier League match with Fulham this weekend as well as next weekend’s FA Cup semifinal.
