Real Madrid's Karim Benzema (L) celebrates after scoring against Rosenborg during the Santiago Bernabeu trophy match in Madrid.

Karim Benzema scored two goals as Real Madrid beat Rosenborg 4-0 in its last warm-up match before the start of the Spanish season.

Benzema opened in the 12th minute before running on to Cristiano Ronaldo’s deft pass in the 27th and firing a shot off the under side of the bar and past goalkeeper Rune Jarstein at his near post.

Lassana Diarra and captain Raul Gonzalez also scored as the Spanish powerhouse completed its preseason by winning the Santiago Bernabeu trophy. It opens its season on Saturday in the Spanish capital against Deportivo La Coruna.

“The objective was to win, we’re a team that is getting better bit by bit,” Ronaldo said. “I’m feeling better, I’m ready to start the league.”

Striker Ruud van Nistelrooy and midfielder Mahamadou Diarra also returned for the first time since last November from long-term knee injuries to play against the Norwegian leaders.
