Puducherry scripted a 5-1 win over Tamil Nadu in a South Zone leg league fixture of the 21st senior National women’s football championship at JJ CET here on Saturday.

Puducherry took the lead early after Sandhiya scored in the second minute. In search of the equaliser, Tamil Nadu players showed a lot of aggression. Kalpana and Sumithra came close to scoring but their shots were kept out by rival custodian Vinitha.

Puducherry attacked frequently in the latter part of the session and the move paid rich dividends. Indhumathi’s left footer from just outside the penalty box found the target in the 42nd. Pradeepa netted three minutes later to put her team in a commanding position.

The results: League: Puducherry 5 (Sandhiya 2 & 73, Indhumathi 42 & 77, Pradeepa 45) bt Tamil Nadu 1 (Geethanjali 51). Karnataka 3 (Amoolya Kamal 41, Lilly Mary Thomas 69 & 89) bt Telangana 1 (Roja 78).
