The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Sanjay Patel said on Monday that he continued in his position as the secretary of the Board.

Patel termed his removal from the managing committee of the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) as unconstitutional.

The opposing group headed by Chirayu Amin lost the president’s election to Samarjitsingh Gaekwad but subsequently won a majority of seats — 12 out of 20 — in the managing committee. Patel, however, kept his post.

The group then said Patel’s selection in the managing committee was flawed.

In his response, Patel said the decision to remove him was taken without the managing committee chairman Gaekwad. “How can any decision be taken in his absence?” he asked. “I am yet to receive a show cause notice.”

He had already moved the civil court in Vadodara to challenge the move against him. Patel said, “A leading lawyer has told me that I am perfectly qualified to be in the managing committee.”

Regarding his continuation as BCCI secretary, Patel said, “I have been proposed and seconded by two members of the BCCI.

“It does not have anything to do with the BCA managing committee. In any case, I am still legally a member of it.”
