Rampaul raring to go

April 03, 2013 12:07 am | Updated 12:07 am IST - Bangalore:

It must come as a surprise that Ravi Rampaul has never featured in the IPL before, considering his record in the shortest format of the game.

It is no surprise, though, that the West Indies’ victory in the World Twenty20 has focused greater attention on its chief architects, and Caribbean cricket in general.

West Indies captain Darren Sammy, young seamer Jason Holder, who made his international debut only this year, and Christopher Barnwell, who shone for Guyana in the Caribbean T20, were all snapped up at this year’s auction.

With 68 wickets at 19.66 in T20s at an economy rate of 6.92, Rampaul, who was purchased for $290,000 by RCB, is arguably the best of this year’s Caribbean recruits.

“My performance at the World Cup probably was big (factor behind) RCB buying me,” he said after a practice session here. “I had a good showing with the new ball. Hopefully, I can transfer that to the IPL.”
