VISAKHAPATNAM: The first match of the One-Day International series between New Zealand-A and India-A was abandoned on Saturday.

Scheduled for Friday, the game was postponed to the following day due to wet outfield conditions. After an inspection following lunch on Saturday, Match Referee Prakash Bhatt decided to cancel the contest.

Although it didn’t rain on Friday and Saturday, a patch close to the boundary proved problematic.

Efforts by curator Naga Mallaiah and his team through all of Saturday morning went in vain. The ground staff even dug up the area to relay the turf.

It was then decided that Sunday’s match will be a day-night affair and will start at 1.30 p.m.
