V.V.S. Laxman has always played cricket honestly. Post-retirement, the elegant batsman has not allowed any of his prominent traits take a backseat. Now, Laxman is enjoying his role as mentor of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League.

However the temptation to play again remains. “The urge to play will never die down. But consciously, I have made an effort not to think about it.

“But it is a great opportunity to be part of the IPL and a good franchise, where I am enjoying my role as mentor. The quality of players makes my role more exciting,” said Laxman, ahead of Saturday’s match against Kings XI Punjab here.

Of the younger players at SRH, Laxman says: “The current group is quite receptive. As a senior player, I have always discussed how to approach and play in certain situations and make the mental adjustments.”
