India U-19 holds the upper hand

The India Under-19 team gave itself time to force a result after leaving Sri Lanka Under-19 168 runs behind its mammoth first-innings total of 589 on the third and penultimate day of the first Youth Test here.

The host was 177 for three at close after Ayush Badoni, batting at number seven, slammed an unbeaten 185 (205b, 19x4, 4x6) to help India u-19 to a position of strength.

In its second essay, the host dished out a much better performance, with Nuwanidu Fernando leading the way with a fluent 104. Mohit Jangra picked up all the three wickets.

Earlier, off-spinner Kalhara Senarathne was the most successful bowler for Sri Lanka, returning figures of six for 170.
