Interim president of BCCI for the IPL-VII Sunil Gavaskar met the IPL governing council chairman Ranjib Biswal at Dubai on Saturday and obtained the latest status report of the competition for the current season.
“I had a meeting with Ranjib Biswal (Chairman, IPL GC) and the management staff in Dubai.
“They briefed me on the various aspects related to the IPL 2014 that will commence on April 16 in the UAE. I am confident that the upcoming season of the IPL 2014 will be a successful one,” said Gavaskar.
A non-resident Indian (NRI) for many years, Gavaskar has been a frequent visitor to the UAE right from the days of the Sharjah-based Cricketers Benefit Fund Series (CBFS) in 1981. A number of experienced BCCI officials will assist him leading to the inauguration of this edition of the IPL at Abu Dhabi on April 15.
The BCCI and Gavaskar in particular, will also receive support from the ICC.
“Recognising the importance of the integrity of the competition, the ICC will provide its full support for the matches in the UAE...
“It will also be a good opportunity for both the BCCI and the ICC to share knowledge and experience as we both strive to deliver memorable events to cricket fans around the world,” ICC chief executive David Richardson had said after the BCCI announced that the first 20 matches of the current season will be played at the UAE because of India’s general elections.
