‘Different pitches have been the beauty'

Published - May 02, 2011 01:30 am IST - Mumbai:

Jason Gillespie, the bowling coach of Kings XI Punjab, said the DLF-IPL-IV has offered assorted types of pitches and hence teams have had to buckle down and face the challenge.

“That's (different types of pitches) the beauty of this IPL. The batsmen have found new ways and new areas (behind the wicket) and have been creative; the bowlers are also trying hard. I am also enjoying my role,'' Gillespie said.

He agreed with Zaheer Khan that it's difficult to get the ball to reverse swing. “It's only a matter of 20 overs and with the dew factor coming into play in the late matches, it's difficult to reverse, but it's possible to an extent in matches that start at 4 p.m. and where the pitch and outfield are of the abrasive type,'' said the former Australian seamer.

The Mumbai Indians coach and former South African seamer, Shaun Pollock, admitted his team did not bat well in the previous match against Rajasthan Royals at Jaipur and that the players are happy to return to play the home matches. “The wicket here has been good for all departments of the game, but the home team has the prerogative to prepare a pitch to suit its strength,'' he said.

Pollock also felt that Kieron Pollard has not had opportunities, especially in the first three matches when the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Ambati Rayudu and Rohit Sharma performed well.

“We are not thinking far too ahead, it's a different match tomorrow.''
