Andraju Kishore, a 17-year-old cricketer belonging to Diviseema in the Krishna district, has come a long way to realise his dream of representing India.

His performance — three wickets and 75 runs — in the thumping 3-2 victory against Sri Lanka has put him in a safe place to represent the country in the T-20 world cup 2019 to be held in Hong Kong. The Sri Lanka series was held between December 12 and 18. Playing two major series in Nepal and Sri Lanka, he has a quest to play for India in other formats.

“I have delivered my best both in batting and bowling [pace] in the Sri Lanka series. The selection results for the 2019 T-20 world cup team are likely to be out this week. I’m waiting to hear that I will have a chance to play,” Mr. Kishore told

It was his recent unbeaten knock of 42 runs and six wickets in the India-Nepal Under 19 T-20 series that guaranteed him the place for the Sri Lanka tour.

“I’m also excited to hear that a few county clubs will select some of the best players in the series,” Mr. Kishore said.

He is right-handed pacer and bats in the middle order being trained at the AP Amaravati Cricket Association under the supervision of all-rounder and coach Bala Kishore Chowdary.

“I see the T-20 format is what otherwise an immediate platform for young players to become professional, with diverse chances to play for the country. Representing India is an opportunity to showcase my prowess,” said Mr. Kishore, a native of Dheen Dayalpuram.

Humble background

He is pursuing senior Intermediate (M.P.C) in a local college in Avanigadda. The budding player is keen on one-day and test matches to gain technique and energy, apart from enjoying all formats.

Mr. Kishore’s father Karuna Rao said he was dreaming to see his son represent India bringing laurels to Andhra Pradesh. “I do not know much about the sport. What all I have prepared to do is to encourage my boy to achieve his goal,” added Mr. Karuna Rao, an RTC bus conductor.
