Lalit Modi was on Monday unseated as the president of the Rajasthan Cricket Associaton (RCA). The special Annual General Meeting (AGM) voted Modi out with a 17-1 verdict even as his supporters cried foul of the entire election process.
The no-confidence motion against Mr. Modi, a former Board vice-president and Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner, was passed at the meeting held under police protection at the RCA Academy inside the Sawai Man Singh Stadium Complex in Jaipur. The motion had been moved by Kota-based Amin Pathan, who had claimed last October support of 23 of the affiliated units when removing Modi from his post.

The rival factions had sought legal intervention to sort out the issue. The Rajasthan cricket affairs have been conducted by officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Rajasthan State Sports Council (RSSC).
According to sources, Mr. Modi’s loyalists alleged they were not allowed to participate in the AGM. On the other hand, the RSSC claimed the members were not let in since they had reported late.
The RCA comprises 33 districts with five of the units under dispute. The Amin group claimed the support of 18 votes while ten units had pledged their allegiance to Modi.
Acording to Rajasthan’s Sports Act and also the RCA Constitution, Pathan’s group needed two-third majority to get the no confidence through. The rival group stressed it had 15 votes, which was adequate to defeat the motion.
