Ganguly unhappy with team's performance

Published - April 11, 2010 04:17 pm IST - Bangalore:

Sourav Ganguly made a scathing attack on his team-mates after Kolkata Knight Riders slumped to a seven-wicket defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore here on Saturday night.

“I thought we played good cricket for the first 10 overs and for the next 30 we were just absolutely rubbish. In one line, we were rubbish,” an angry Knight Riders' skipper said.

Ganguly said that his team has to perform if it has to harbour hopes of making it to the semi-finals. “We have to play better cricket. If we play cricket like this we don't deserve to be in the semi-finals. I don't mind losing but we were pathetic on the field. I can talk, I can lift them up but they need to lift themselves. I can't go and field for them, I can't go and bowl for them,” Ganguly said.

While Ganguly presented a grim face, Royal Challengers' seamer R. Vinay Kumar, who bagged three wickets to choke the Knight Riders, expressed gratitude to his captain Anil Kumble. “Before the match, Anil bhai spoke to us and told us all as to what length to bowl on this wicket and that helped me to a great extent,” Vinay said.

Vinay added that he was happy to dismiss Ganguly. “Taking the wickets of Sachin Tendulkar (in an earlier match) and Ganguly means that you gain a lot of confidence. I got Ganguly with a slower delivery,” Vinay said.
