Andhra scores 176 for five

U.M.S. Girinath along with R. Suraj Preetham helped Andhra post 176 for five against Tamil Nadu on the opening day of the Vijay Merchant Trophy under-16 South Zone tournament at the ACA-VDCA stadium here on Friday.

Girinath was at the crease for five-and-a-half-hours during his knock of 67 (292 m, 3x4). He added 34 with opener Ch. Gnaneswar (28, 4x4) for the second wicket, 74 with Suraj Preetham, who scored a fine half-century (52, 8x4, 2x6) and 44 with Md. Anwar Raza (15batting) before being the last man out.

R. Sai Kishore picked up two wickets for Tamil Nadu.

Hyderabad seemed not to have been affected by nine of its players, found to be over aged, replaced just before the commencement of its match with Kerala at the Zinc stadium.

HCA sent nine other players by road and they reached the venue just two hours before the match but the team ran up the day’s highest total, 240 for four, with B. Rahul going strong with a half-century and Rakesh Kumar on 44.

Karnataka restricted Goa to 183 for eight at the Ukku stadium. Adhoksh Hedge took four wickets for Karnataka.

The scores: Andhra 176 for five in 102.5 overs (U.M.S. Girinath 67, R. Suraj Preetham 52) vs. Tamil Nadu.

Hyderabad 240 for four in 100 overs (B. Rahul 51 batting, Rakesh Kumar 44 batting, Abhirath Reddy 45, Vineeth Reddy 44) vs. Kerala.

Goa 183 for eight in 90 overs (Yogesh Virendra Naik 60, D.D. Gaonkar 31, M.R. Naik 30, Adhoksh Hedge four for 29) vs. Karnataka.
