Afridi to lead Pakistan in World Twenty20

Shahid Afridi has been appointed Pakistan captain for the upcoming T20 World Cup in West Indies.

Shahid Afridi has been appointed Pakistan captain for the World Twenty20 in West Indies.

Pakistan Cricket Board spokesman Nadeem Sarwar announced the appointment on Tuesday.

Afridi had been fined 3 million rupees ($35,200) by the PCB for ball tampering during the one-day series against Australia earlier this year, but the all-rounder was awarded the highest central contract from the organisation last week.

Pakistan selected its 15-player squad earlier this month but had delayed picking the captain.

The tournament runs from April 30 to May 16.

Pakistan is in Group A with Australia and Bangladesh.
