BCCI post: 3 in race

It was a day of intense activity here on Saturday with BCCI members gearing up for Monday’s AGM. Nominations for the post of Board president will have to be filed before 4 p.m. on Sunday.

With N. Srinivasan no longer in the race for the top post, many names are doing the rounds. Mr. Srinivasan’s camp holds an advantage going into the final stretch, and one from the trio of Jagmohan Dalmiya, Shivlal Yadav and Sanjay Patel is expected to become president.

The East Zone has six votes and this will be its turn to nominate a candidate. Any aspirant will have to be proposed and seconded by two voting members from that zone.

Indications are that Mr. Srinivasan’s camp, at present, has all six votes from the East. Getting nominated from the zone is a major hurdle before Sharad Pawar and his supporters.

The group, according to reliable sources, has attempted to reach out to Mr. Dalmiya, who controls two votes, sufficient for any contender to get proposed and seconded. Mr. Dalmiya, so far, has opted to stay with Mr. Srinivasan and could be rewarded with the Board president’s post. Mr. Yadav, a Srinivasan loyalist, is also a strong candidate.

If Mr. Pawar, eventually, manages to find two East Zone votes, then there will be a contest. The winner needs to secure a simple majority in the 31-member body.

Nod for trust

It is learnt that the Governing Council of the IPL has approved Mr. Srinivasan’s proposal to turn Chennai Super Kings (CSK) into a trust. Neither Mr. Srinivasan nor any member of his family will be involved in its running.

And no one from the management of India Cements will have a role in the trust. The other aspects of it will be known in the coming days.

Mr. Srinivasan had wanted to disassociate himself from the CSK.

The Governing Council allowed Raj Kundra’s stake of 11.7 per cent to be distributed equally among the other three partners of Rajasthan Royals. Mr. Kundra, whose name figured in the IPL betting scandal, had wanted to leave the franchise for good.
