Bad day for Indians

Indian shuttlers had a disappointing day at the Japan Open with all four qualifiers failing to make it to the main draw on Tuesday.

Four Indians — R.M.V. Guru Sai Dutt, Anand Pawar, Arundhati Pantawane and P.C. Thulasi — lost in the qualifying stage.

The main draw of the event starts on Wednesday with Saina Nehwal taking on Thailand's Inthanon Ratchanok.

The results (qualifying): Men: First round: Guru Sai Dutt lost to Keigo Sonoda 21-15, 14-21, 16-21; Anand Pawar bt Kento Momota 21-16, 21-7;
Second round: Anand lost to Tien Chen Chow 18-21, 21-19, 21-23.

Women: First round: Arundhati Pantawane bt P.C. Thulasi 15-21, 22-20, 22-20; Second round: Arundhati lost to Ying Suet Tse 12-21, 15-21. — PTI
