‘This gold for my dad’: Tajinder Singh

For the last few years, life had been a very anxious one for Tajinder Singh.

His father, a farmer in Punjab’s Moga Village, is suffering from cancer and that had left the shot putter very worried.

“My father, Karam Singh, has been suffering from cancer for the last two years. But I get plenty of support from him, even when he is hospitalised,” said Tajinder.

“His life has always been full of sacrifices but he always tells me to focus only on sport, this is the result of that. This gold means a lot to me and our family, I dedicate it to my dad.”

Tajinder found the conditions almost perfect here.

“It was raining at Bhubaneswar during the Asian championship last year so I could only get silver there,” he said. “My preparations for the event were good and I was confident I would do well. I’ve been the Asia No. 1 for the last three years.

“And I’m also happy that I’ve got the national record here. I’ve been after it for the last two years, finally I’ve got it.”
