India had a satisfying day as it bagged three gold medals on the second day of the inaugural Asian school track and field championships at Pahang, Malaysia, on Friday.
The country won eight medals overall from the nine finals gone through the day and now has a total haul of 5 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze medals. It still remains in second spot behind host Malaysia (7-6-5) in the medals tally.
The Indian gold rush was led by the talented Anjana Thamke who took the girls’ 800m title in 2:10.53 even as C. Babitha landed the bronze clocking 2:15.92.

The boys’ 800m final too turned out to be profitable for India as it ended 1-2 through P. Mohammed Afsal (1:53.69) and Rahul Singh (1:54.83).
N. Abdulla Aboobacker rounded off the Indian gold hunt of the day as he took the top spot in the boys’ triple jump with an effort of 14:88m.

Shakti Solanki was a bit unlucky in his quest for a golden double. Solanki, who had won the shot put title on Thursday, had an effort of 40.27 in the boys’ discus final. He was beaten to second place by Sri Lanka’s K.A.P. Jayawardane who had a throw of 41.52m.
Ruma Sarkar too won a second medal in as many days as she took silver in the girls’ 200m clocking 25.44s. Ruma had won the bronze in the 100m on Thursday. India also picked up a bronze when A.M. Bincy finished third in 29:14.55 in the girls’ 5km walk.
