Paula Radcliffe has pulled out of the marathon at the world championships because she says her reconstructed right foot is not yet ready to race the distance.
The world-record holder won Sunday’s New York City Half-Marathon in her first race since winning the New York Marathon nine months ago, but says her foot has not fully recovered from the surgery she had in March.
The British runner says she is “devastated” that she cannot run after she flew to Berlin for the race, “especially having got so close in such a short time frame.”
