Anaka loses in pre-quarters of junior World Championship

Anaka Alankamony lost to top seed Nour El Tayeb in the pre—quarterfinals, ending India’s singles campaign in the World Junior Women’s Squash Championships in Boston, USA.

The Indian went down 13/11, 11/6, 9/11, 11/3 to the tournament favourite from Egypt.

Anaka had her chances as she matched the world number 17 with her strokes leading twice in the first game 10—9 and 11—10. But Nour won the crucial points to pocket the first game.

Nour played some brilliant drives throughout the match and it was her consistency that enabled her to win convincingly in 36 minutes.

“I am training to win such matches, I am confident of a better performance next year,” Anaka said after the match.

The team competition of the event starts on July 26.
