The PMK chief urged the Tamil Nadu government to extend the probe in illegalities in granite mining to the entire state

PMK chief Ramadoss

PMK chief Ramadoss on Thursday alleged that the Tamil Nadu government was “restricting” the probe into illegalities in granite mining in the state to Madurai district and wanted it to extend it to the entire state.

“In an order, Chief Secretary Mohan Verghese Chunkath has stated that it would suffice if probe was carried out in Madurai district,” Dr. Ramadoss said in a statement here.

This alleged step of the government would defeat the very purpose for which the Madras High Court had appointed IAS officer U Sagayam to probe the illegal granite quarrying, he alleged.

“The Tamil Nadu government should extend the probe so as to unearth the illegalities in mining across the state.”

The High Court on September 11 appointed Mr. Sagayam as Special Court Commissioner to probe the multi-crore illegal granite quarrying.
