SUBJECT: HUMAN RIGHTS VETTING OF INDIAN ARMY'S INDEPENDENT PARACHUTE BRIGADE

1. (U) This is an action request. See paragraph 4.

2. (C) Embassy has been approached by US Special Operations Command Pacific (SOPAC), which wishes to engage in a training program with an Indian military counterpart, the Indian Army's 10th Para (SF) Battalion, 50 Independent Parachute Brigade. 10th Para (SF) is the hosting unit for the SOCPAC JCET Balance Iroquois 05-2, August 4-9, 2005. The US Army, 1st Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) is the US participating unit.

3. (C) Embassy has no derogatory information about this unit.

4. (U) We understand that the Department will also do research on this unit, based on its own records. Embassy would appreciate receiving the results of Department's research.
