Foundation stone laid for Kangeyam Cattle Research Centre

Foundation stone for establishing the Kangeyam Cattle Research Centre at a cost of ₹ 5 crore in Paguthampalayam in Kothamangalam Panchayat in Bhavanisagar Panchayat Union was laid here on Friday.

Minister for School Education K.A. Sengottaiyan, Minister for Environment K.C. Karuppannan and Minister for Animal Husbandry Udumalai K. Radhakrishnan laid the stone. District Collector S. Prabhakar, S. Eswaran, MLA, and other officials.

Mr. Sengottaiyan said that initially ₹ 2.50 crore was sanctioned for the works while another ₹ 2.50 crore will be sanctioned later.

He added that the centre would play a major role in enhancing the number of cattle which is in the verge of destruction.

He said that water would be drawn from the river through pipelines at a cost of ₹ 30 lakh and would be supplied to the centre. He said that people’s long demand seeking bus facility would be fulfilled soon while a check dam would be constructed by this year end. Also, steps would be taken to establish an agricultural college in the area, he added.

Mr. Udumalai Radhakrishnan said that the centre would come up at 163 acre and would protect the Kangayam cattle that are in a distinctive state. Apart from this, various research activities will be taken up in the centre that would benefit the cattle.

U. Thaniyarasu, MLA, Gobichettipalayam Revenue Divisional Officer S. Govindaraj, officials from Animal Husbandry Department participated.
