Prakasam and Warangal districts police filed their reports on Monday with regard to the killing of two top Maoist leaders in encounters before the Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission (APSHRC).

Shakamuri Apparao and Kondal Reddy were killed in separate gun battles with the police in Prakasam and Warangal districts on March 12, police had said last week.

Following a petition from civil rights activists before the Commission, APSHRC Chairman B. Subhashan Reddy had called for reports from Prakasam and Warangal SPs by March 15.

The People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) in their petition had alleged that the two Naxal. leaders were shot dead by the police in “fake” encounters.

However, the reports denied the PUCL’s charge and said the ultras were killed in exchange of fire with policemen.

The Commission posted the matter for next hearing on March 22. Copies of the reports were given to the petitioner, who said they will file their say soon.
