Munda for comprehensive strategy against Maoists

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) general secretary and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda on Saturday accused the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government of being confused about the Maoist problem and called for adoption of a comprehensive strategy to tackle it.

Mr. Munda told journalists that there were differences between the Congress and the government on the issue and there was need to reach a consensus.

Increasing threat

He said the threat to internal security had increased but the UPA government had failed to counter it.

He was here on a two-day visit to take part in the demonstration by the party at Dispur against the fuel price hike and the financial scam unravelled by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Dima Hasao district.

“Serious issue”

The senior BJP leader said the party would raise the scam in the monsoon session of Parliament. He said the matter was very serious as it involved siphoning off of development funds to militants and involved politicians, bureaucrats and contractors.

The Central Bureau of Investigation is now conducting a probe into the scam.
