A Special Court in Bangalore on Monday adjourned to May 7 the trial in the disproportionate assets case involving former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and several others.
Apart from Ms. Jayalalithaa, the other accused are, Sasikala Natarajan, Illavarasi and V. Sudhagaran. All the accused were represented by their counsel in court on Monday.
Navanet Krishnan, counsel for Jayalalithaa, submitted to the Special Court that his client had filed a special leave petition (SLP) before the Supreme Court challenging its order in refusing to discharge her in the disproportionate assets case. He said senior counsel Uday U. Lalit on Friday had made a mention before a three-judge Supreme Court Bench, comprising Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, Justice Deepak Verma and Justice H.L. Gokhale, for early listing of the matter. The Bench, he said, had directed the case to be included in the “mention” list on May 4.

The court was urged to defer hearing till the Supreme Court disposed of the SLP.
Special Public Prosecutor and the former Advocate-General B.V. Acharya urged the court to give a shorter date.
Presiding Officer of the Special Court, Mallikarjuna, adjourned the case.
