The Goa State Election Commission authorities on Monday said they were maintaining strict vigil on casinos and matka gambling in the State as the model code of conduct has come into effect in view of the February 4 Assembly elections. Chief Electoral Officer Kunal said the police in south and north Goa have been instructed to ensure matka gambling was controlled effectively. Mr. Kunal said the Commercial Tax Department had been asked to monitor casinos in the State.

He said, “We will also control sale of illicit drugs. We are keeping an eye on anti-social elements. Today, we registered 15 cases under Section 107 of the CrPC, one case under Section 110 of the CrPC, and more than 3,000 cases under preventive section of of the CrPC.”

Mr. Kunal said he was happy with the new apps introduced by the Election Commission to help people lodge complaints online. The app, Samadhan, has so far received 104 applications, of which 100 have been disposed of. Suvida, the online facility for political parties to register for permission, has received 50 applications and has disposed of all of them.
