Five persons were killed in a road accident at Kottucherry in Karaikal in the early hours of Wednesday. The family from Chennai was returning from the Ettukudi Murugan temple in Nagapattinam to Tharangambadi via Karaikal, when the ambassador in which they were travelling rammed into a tree near Navodaya School at about 3 a.m.
Muthayan (42), his daughter Sabitha (12) and mother-in-law Shenbagavalli (55) were killed on the spot, while the driver Velmurugan (31) and Muthayan's son Saran (9) were reported to have died on admission to hospital. His wife Sundari (35), sister-in-law Kanaga and second son Jana (7) are under treatment at the Puducherry GH. However, Jana's condition is reported to be critical.
