May 05, 2010 11:36 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 06:53 am IST - GANDHINAGAR:

IPS officer Abhay Chudasama, who was arrested in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, being taken to court in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

The special CBI court on Wednesday rejected a request for further remand of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Abhay Chudasma, and sent him to judicial custody.

He was produced before the court on completion of seven days' remand, with a request for a remand for one more week, as the Central Bureau of Investigation claimed that he was yet to be examined on certain important aspects of investigation in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case

Mr. Chudasma's lawyer, however, opposed the request on grounds of his client's ill health, and said seven days were enough time for questioning the IPS officer. He also requested the court to issue an order to keep Mr. Chudasma separate from other prisoners, and provide medical aid and, if necessary hospitalisation. The court will decide on this plea on Thursday.
