Wrestler-actor Dara Singh critical

Updated - July 05, 2016 10:26 am IST - Mumbai

Commonwealth Wrestling champion and famed yesteryear Indian film actor Dara Singh, who was rushed to the Kokilaben Ambani Hospital following a cardiac arrest, continued to be in an “extremely critical condition” on Sunday, hospital sources said.

Mr. Singh, who has starred in over a 100 Hindi and Punjabi films, is currently on ventilator in the ICU. He was admitted to the hospital on Saturday evening.

Speaking to The Hindu, Dr. Ram Narain, Executive Director of the Kokilaben Hospital, said that Mr. Singh was on high-dose medication in an effort to revive his blood pressure.

“One of the causes could be a clotting of blood in his brain. But we are yet to make a clear diagnosis. As of now, he continues to remain in a critical state,” said Dr. Narain.

He expressed hope at the fact that the octogenarian wrestler-turned-actor had held his own throughout Saturday and today.

“His condition has not retrogressed. So, in that sense, we are positive. The next 24 hours will be vital for him,” he said.

The chief problem, according to Dr. Narain, was in getting Mr. Singh shifted to conduct a CT scan.

At the moment, we cannot conduct the scan as Mr. Singh’s condition is highly unstable. We will have to take a call on Monday morning.

Incidentally, Mr. Singh is the third Bollywood star to be hospitalized this week, following actor and BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha and superstar Rajesh Khanna, who have both been in hospital for over a week now.
