Former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram on Monday said he was the real target of the government, though notices were being issued by investigating agencies to his son Karti Chidambaram.

"The whole world knows that I am the real target of the government. However, notices are being issued to Karti Chidambaram. He will respond to the notices," he said in a statement.

Mr. Chidambaram said his son was travelling when the Central Bureau of Investigation's notice was received in Chennai. "Hence, his lawyer informed the CBI that the notice will be placed before him on his return and he will respond," he said.

Even before the said notice was issued, Karti Chidambaram had filed a statement before the CBI. "He had made it clear that he has no knowledge of or connection with the matter that is being reportedly investigated," said Mr. Chidambaram.
