Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday took a dig at the Modi government over job creation after Union Road Transport and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari admitted that there is a job shortage.
“Excellent question [Nitin] Gadkariji. Every Indian is asking the same question. Where are the jobs,” Mr. Gandhi tweeted, tagging a news report in which the Minister was quoted as having questioned the logic behind quota agitations when there are not enough government jobs available.
Mr. Gadkari had on Saturday told reporters in Aurangabad that reservation does not necessarily guarantee jobs. “Let us assume the reservation is given. But there are no jobs. The government recruitment is frozen. Where are the jobs?” he asked.

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan also targeted the BJP government. “What we have been saying from last 4 years on the failure of Modi Govt in Job creation, is now being endorsed by Mr. Nitin Gadkari, Modiji nation wants to know #WhereAreTheJobs which you promised,” he tweeted.
In a tweet late on Saturday, Mr. Gadkari said that the government was not planning to change the criteria for reservation from “castes to economic conditions.”
