Symposium-and-expo will also track trends in media consumption and advertising

The newspaper printing and publishing industry will showcase advances in technology, track trends in media consumption and advertising and take a look at the future at a three-day symposium-and-expo beginning here on September 6.

Hosted by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) and co-sponsored by The Indian Newspaper Society, the ‘WAN-IFRA India 2011' is expected to attract more than 65 leading exhibitors.

The expo, being held at the Chennai Trade Centre, will feature national and international vendors showcasing the end-to-end production cycle and workflow on press, pre-press, post-press, publishing systems and digital media domains.

A new concept at the conference is the ‘Media Port' that serves as a dedicated location for quick learning workshops through sessions on print production, editorial and new media topics.

The conference, which runs concurrently with the expo on all three days, will have three parallel programmes: printing, newsroom and cross-media advertising summits.

There is a facility for translation from English to Hindi for the printing and newsroom summits.

Christoph Riess, CEO of WAN-IFRA, a global organisation of the world's newspapers and publishers, and Jacob Mathew, its president, are among the key speakers at the inaugural function.

According to Magdoom Mohamed, managing director, WAN-IFRA South Asia, the industry was looking forward to the expo, being held after the recessionary conditions eased.

“We expect more than 500 delegates to the conference and more than 2,000 quality visitors to the expo.”
