U.S. offers ‘Global Entry’ to Indians

Are the days of cine star Shahrukh Khan being detained at U.S. airports going to be over soon?

The possibility seems likely with the U.S. offer to open talks to extend its ‘Global Entry’ programme to Indian citizens.

Under the programme, frequent travellers from approved countries must fill up an online application, pay a $100 fee, undergo a background check and interview and submit fingerprints. The membership is valid for five years.

The programme facilitates quick entry to them and reduces immigration hassles. It began with a pilot project in 2008.

The Global Entry partnerships are now in place with select countries, including the U.K., Germany, South Korea and Qatar. Some of these countries have also offered U.S. citizens a similar programme.
