Uncle moves court for custody of Abhigyan, Aishwarya

Even as the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Burdwan, passed an order handing over custody of Abhigyan and Aishwarya to their mother Sagarika Chakraborty, their uncle Arunabhash Bhattacharya moved court to retain custody of the children.

‘No just grounds’

Dr. Bhattacharya was constrained to file a petition in the district court of Burdwan last month for retaining custody of the toddlers in compliance with an agreement, “because some quasi-judicial body, without just grounds, is committing overt acts at the cost of the paramount welfare of the children,” counsel Prashanta Ghosh told

The Hindu over telephone on Friday.

Norway agreement

Earlier, the custody of the children was granted to Dr. Bhattacharya by the Stavanger District Court after an agreement had been signed between him and his brother Anurup and his brother’s wife Sagarika in the presence of an official of the Indian embassy in Norway.

The Bhattacharya family has said the CWC passed the interim order last month without giving either Dr. Bhattacharya or Anurup a chance to be heard.
