The Trinamool Congress, second largest constituent of the United Progressive Alliance government, is understood to have reacted strongly to the fuel price hike.

The party leadership has called an emergency meeting of its MPs here on Friday to discuss the development.

Sources in the party said that the leadership was peeved over it not being consulted on the matter. It is likely to take a strong position on the developments at its meeting.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is also the chairperson of the party, had on earlier occasions when such a hike had been announced, expressed her resentment saying that the move would affect the interests of the common people.
