Atmosphere not right for Xi-Modi meeting at Hamburg G20 Summit, says China

China on July 6, 2017 said the “atmosphere” was “not right” for a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Hamburg, amidst a standoff between the Armies of the two countries in the Sikkim section. The “atmosphere is not right” for a bilateral meeting between Mr. Xi and Mr. Modi, Chinese Foreign Ministry officials said.

Tamil Nadu cinema theatres to reopen with costlier tickets tomorrow

From Friday onwards, cinema theatres will charge 28% of Goods Services Tax separately over and above the price of movie ticket. If the ticket is priced at Rs. 120, the customer will be paying approximately Rs. 153.6. Similarly, an 18%GST will be charged for tickets priced at Rs. 100 and less.

Jawan with AK-47 rifle goes missing from Kashmir's Baramulla

An official said sepoy Zahoor Ahmad Thokar, a resident of Pulwama's Sirnoo, was posted with 173 Battalion of Territorial Army (Engineers) located at Baramulla's Gantamula installation. "Thokar deserted the army on the intervening night of July 5-6. He has ran away with the service assault rifle and three magazines," said the official.

India 96th in FIFA World ranking, its best in 21 years

India has moved four places up to the 96th position in the FIFA World ranking released on Thursday. This is the country’s second best ranking — its previous best was the 94th position in February 1996. India, which had been ranked 100th in the previous list released on June 1, has won two matches since the last list was published.

IAF’s MiG-23 jet crashes near Jodhpur

A MiG-23UB jet trainer of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed at Balesar near Jodhpur in Rajasthan on Thursday. Both the pilots have ejected safely.  IAF sources said that the jet crashed approximately 60 km from Jodhpur while on a routine training mission.
