Top bookie's six conduits held in Goa

Six bookies from Mumbai were arrested for betting during the finals of IPL 6, at Candolim in north Goa.

Paresh Asarpota, Ketan Chabda, Ritesh Patel, Amit Asarpota, Amit Bapat and Nikuj Kirit Lalan were produced before the judicial magistrate in Mapusa on Monday, who remanded them in five-day police custody.

Deputy Inspector General of Police O.P. Mishra told The Hindu that Sunday’s arrest came after inspector Nilesh Rane from the Calangute station raided a villa at Candolim on a tip-off.

The DIG said the police would take legal action against the owner of the flat taken on rent by the accused for betting.

Laptops, mobiles recovered

The police recovered four laptops, 46 mobile phones and Rs. 26,000.

6 held in Patna for betting

Patna Staff Reporter writes:

Police arrested six persons in Patna for betting in IPL matches on Sunday night, when the final of the sport’s richest tournament was played. However, no links with bookies have emerged so far. The accused – Dheeraj Kumar, Bipin Kumar, Neeraj Kumar, Gaurav Kumar and Amir Kumar – were from Bihar, said City Superintendent of Police Jayant Kant.

They were rounded up near a sweetshop, and Rs.50,000, six mobile phones, a page with jottings of betting transactions and an IPL chart were recovered from them.

“All of them have admitted to indulging in betting,” Station House Officer Ravindra Bharti told The Hindu. They have been booked for cheating under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 11 of the Public Gambling Act.
